This is the account of a truly amazing event that I will always hold close and consider one of the most significant occurances in my life. I can't convey in words how humble and privileged I feel to have been included in this solemn ceremony.
Three days before I left home for Midway I had no idea I would be at Midway for the first time since I left from my 21 month tour there while in the Navy, 23 years previous. This trip was also a reunion for myself and one of my best freinds and Midway Shipmates, Bart Davidson. He and I hadn't seen each other since we were both stationed at Midway. To be reunited at Midway made the reunion so much more.
This trip was even more significant considering the island has been closed indefinitely to public visitation. I want to thank all of my dear Midway Island friends that encouraged me to inquire, and also for their facilitation of my trip. I owe more than I can ever repay. You know who you are. You all were with me at Midway. Thank you.
I also would like to thank the Dept. of The Interior and the Fish and Wildlife Service for acknowleging the Veterans of the Battle of Midway in the form of a ceremony at Midway. I would also like to appeal to them to open Midway once again to the public by enstating a Public Visitation plan as they have promised to do.
