Krista Waldee, Midway, 1976

Well, I have read some of the messages here and how the bashing of FWS
has become a broken record. So I thought I would offer a brief
distraction.

Things I remember about Midway: I remember the BIG 4th of July
celebration, 1976. I always have wondered where the fireworks really
that great, or was I just that small?

There was a big bush that grew all over the place and I would tear off a
bunch of stems and use them for pompom's like a cheerleader.

What were those nuts? We would collect them and play war and throw them
at each other, but you darn sure didn't want to get hit... ouch!

Riding your horse against the wind was not fun, but if you were lucky
enough to be riding with the wind... you were zooming along
effortlessly.

Shame on me, but playing with the birds out there was great fun. We
would catch those little yellow canaries and pet them a while and let
them go. But do not under any circumstances stand under where the terns
are sitting above you on a branch or wire.

The excitement of finding my first fishball!! Like a prirate on a
treasure hunt!!

Seeing the movie Jaws for the first time at one of the clubs. I think
it might have been the chiefs/officer club. We were guests and were
usually not allowed in there. Going swimming after seeing Jaws was a
challenge for next several weeks.

My bike had a big banana seat, blue fenders with white daisy's. Having
a basket on your bike was cool. The people that had the big people
tricycles were probably the rich folks.. haha.. or so I thought.

Mrs. Weaver was my FAVORITE teacher!! I remember saying the Pledge to
the Flag every morning...

I never thought how much of an impact living on Midway would have on my
views as an adult...its nice to know its still out there.

~PeaceOut~
